AT-899 and Beachtek?
I am very happy with my Audio Technica AT-4073 and Beachtek DXA-6 combination. Is it possible to power an AT-899 lav mic in the second channel of the Beachtek to power both mics to optimum effect? Obviously I'm trying to avoid buying the 899's power module.
Thanks very much, Carl Russo |

You need the power mudule to interface with the Beach Tek. The version you speak of is for use with various wireless transmitters.
It most likely is possible but whether or not it's worth it is another matter. Call AT and ask one of their engineers, they'll talk to you. The only wiring for unterminated pig tails I could find is this http://www.audiotechnica.com/prodpro/addinfo/WiringInfo.pdf For the extra $60 you get peace of mind, battery or phantom power option and a high pass filter. Whatever termination you require will still cost you and should you damage the mic, there will be no warranty. The 4073 is also a lot hotter mic than the 899. |

NO! You must use the 899's XLR adapter.
The Beacktek puts out 48 Volts Phantom power. A lav mic without the XLR adapter only needs between 3-9 Volts (what a transmitter supplies). |

What's involved in using the 899 with a minidisc?
It would need a 1/8" miniplug connector, I know. Awhile back I looked at The Sound Professionals site, but they didn't have much info on the 899. |

That depends on the machine you choose. If the mic input is capable of powering a lav mic directly, an a adapter could be made to avoid the XLR connector. If not, you will need to adapt the XLR to the miniplub.
