Good Lavalier mic with 1/8 mini jack
I would like to buy a good Good Lavalier mic with 1/8 mini jack to use with my Olympus DS-30 digital recorder. Any ideas?

We have had good success with the Audio-Technica ATR35s, which we issue with Edirol R09 recorders to reporters...it is remarkably inexpensive but does a good job. One thing to watch is getting the battery in the right way round, it's a button battery and if you get it in backwards, the mike works, but badly. A lot of people who make this error trash the mike in reviews, not realizing.../Battle Vaughan/miamiherald.com video team

Giant Squid
This one is a good value for the money (I use it with my Olympus WS-310):

Thank you guys for your info. I have finally bought the Audio-Technica ATR35s. I haven't actually tested it on a job as such but with the tests I did at home it works perfect. Thanks again.

Too late to help the OP - I have both the Squid and the ATR35s, and my opinion is:
Squid - richer sound quality; higher volume output; rugged construction - costs more ($25+$6 for Neutrik plug); short 5' cord; needs plug-in power - minijack is stereo, goes to both channels ATR35s - self powered w/ LR44 batteries; long 20' cord; cheap ($19) - cord feels flimsy; lower volume output - jack is mono My usage: - Squid is used w/ sony PCM-D50 (which provides power) - Two ATR35s (w/ adapter) into Canon HV30, for interviews Last edited by Tsu Terao; May 1st, 2009 at 04:35 PM.
