ME - 66 Popping Noise....???
My shotgun Mic will make a random crackling and popping noise. We thought it could be because it was picking up something we couldn't see, but we think it might be the mic. Any one have this problem or have a suggestion???

Is the mic connected to a phantom power source? If so, random noises like that suggest an imbalance in the phantom voltage reaching the mic, usually due to a bad cable.

You need to troubleshoot that to isolate the problem.
First change cables and see if that kills the pops. Try another microphone with the original cable and see if that kills the pops. Try another camcorder with everything else original and see if that kills the pops. Try a new battery in the microphone and see if that kills the pops. Individually change each piece in the audio chain until the problems goes away. Cables are always the first suspect.

Is it shock-mounted? It is an ultra sensitive mic and if mounted on a camcorder or boom, shock-mounting is not optional it's a must.
