All Nagra 4.2 ( Non "L") Have phantom?
There's one for sale on ebay for the next half hour and I don't see the
normal rotary switch at the upper right hand side of the mic side of the machine. Do all [plain] 4.2 { not "L", not "S" for stereo) ahev phantom? I can't see where the switch is on the one on ebay ifit does Oh, well, it will be good for future reference even if I miss out on this one. Messing with a separate power supply as well as the tape makes me want to blow the extra 1500 for a SOund Devices 702. In any event, in let's say, wet dusty, windy conditions-- i.e. rain-- which would be more reliable, the Nagra or the Sound Devices.? |

Any particular reason why you want to go Nagra?
These machines aren't that light, you'll have to find tape stock, extra maintenance needed, post workflow, etc. Nagra's and SD's are good in harsh environments, but you don't want to get either of them wet. Nagra's are great machines, but many of us have started going digital or at least DAT. |

Though, having said that, I would go solid state or HD nowadays - my current machine is the new Nagra VI.
