adaptive array mics ?
Has anyone tried or seen Audio Technica's adaptive array mics?
http://www.audio-technica.com/prodpro/profiles/AT895.html It's VERY expensive, for now. Here's a review: http://mixonline.com/ar/audio_audiotechnica_dspcontrolled_adaptivearray/ |

Yes, I played with one at NAB last year. Very impressive. Has some problems but it sure will ignore the bus idling beside you while you interview someone standing beside it on the sidewalk.
It is the only direction microphone I know of that will reject off-axis low frequency sound.

I too looked at it at NAB. The booth guy made a face and we talked.
His opinion was that for the money (+$2K) there are far better options.

Probably the same guy I talked to. He said that the only big buyers were the networks for stuff like the olympics and the like. They are into the second iteration on the design and it apparently doesn't work all that well except that it really rejects side noise.
