Audix SXC1 opinions?

Hi all.
I wonder if any on this board has used this mic. I realize that it's not a schoeps, but how does it compare to the AKG blueline or Oktava?
Cheers

Hi John:

FWIW Ty Ford has suggested that this is a very good mic. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to try one yet.

Marty Atias is a big fan of Audix too. Why not shoot him an e-mail? He's a member.

Thanks all,
I searched the forum and found that Douglas Spotted Eagle doesn't think much of Audix in a recording situation, and Ty does like it. The one down side seems to be the availability of the capsules. The retailers don't seem to stock 'em.

Lovely town Halifax. We spent a week up there a few Augusts ago. Stopped by several guitar shops. Stayed in a qualnt B&B about 1.5 miles up from the waterfront.

Yes, Doug and I frequently disagree. Don't know why. We just do.

Ty Ford

Well

"if you really can't afford a schoeps yet. get the audic scx-1 hc."

Well before you buy a SCX-1 at 500 bucks, if you can't afford a Schoeps maybe you can afford a Sanken CS 3E at 1100?
It's twice the audix, but half of a Schoeps?
Why go for all or nothing?

And do we know for sure that the Audix is better than an AT 4053A (400 bucks) or a Sanken CS 1?

I haven't directly compared the SCX-1 with a Sanken CS-3e, (which is also a great mic).

If you have $1100, sure, go ahead. The SCX-1 HC sounds like it should cost more than $500, though.

Ty

WOuld you say the Audix compare favorably to the Sanken Cs 1 which is around 800 bucks? How does it compare to the AT 4053a?

Regards
Larry

Hey Larry,

It was closer to a Schoeps cmc641. Not exactly and not as good, but in that "family."

That sounds like a pretty good endorsement of the sound quality to me... I would venture a guess and say that in your opinion, the Audix definitely outclasses the AKG Blue Line se300b/ck93 combo and Sanken CS-1, correct? What about the AKG c480b/ck63 combo in your opinion?

Thanks Ty...

I think above Blue Line, yes, and probably CS-1 as well.

Haven't heard a 480 in a while.

Ty

Can you use a BBG and Windjammer with the Audix? If so, does the 20mm work with it?

Thanks again...

... so I ended up getting the Audix I was looking at on ebay. Now I wonder how well it booms? Handling noise, wind suseptability? Should I look at the BBG? I suppose I'll find out...
Oh yeah, and Halifax is a lovely town and lovelier when the harbour cleanup is finished.
