Audio Sync Hell! XL2 & FCP

Hey Audio Gurus,

I shot 31 tapes on a XL2 at 24P.
I digitized 31 tapes via firewire @ 23.98 in FCP.
Every inch of audio is out of sync while playing in FCP.
When I play the captured tapes in QuickTime, the audio is synced.
What am I missing?

Thanks,
-Chris

How are you monitoring the playback audio and video?

How far out of sync is it?

What version of FCP are you using?

What are your sequence settings?

Which 24p pull-down method did you shoot with... 2:3 or 2:3:3:2?

Sounds more like a Final Cut Pro problem if QT plays it in sync.

I'm monitoring from PC speakers. Using a VGA monitor as playback (preview).
I shot with 2:3.

Sequence setting is 23.98 DV.

That could be the problem. The sequence should be set to DV-NTSC when using the 2:3 pull-down.

The advanced pulldown 2:3:3:2 is for editing natively in 24p.

From my experience Final Cut (Version 4.5 HD up to 5.1) sometimes gets out of sync with audio if you capture more than 30 minutes in one piece. That is for PAL 50i. However when this happens, the audio is also out of sync when you play the capture files in quicktime or another player.

if you shot standard mode 3:2 24fps then your TL should be 29.97.

if you shot 24PA, then it should be 23.976

if you captured clips within the start / stop points, cinema tools can remove the 3:2 PD, make new clips without recompressing them, and then you can have 23.976 native clips. a lot of work. if you don't need to deliver a 24p native final edit, leave well enough alone and just stay in 29.97. if you do any FX work in AE or combustion, be sure to interpet the 3:2 PD correctly or you'll get artifacts.
