widescreen in premiere AE still square

When I do a new project in premiere and deside on widescreen 16:9 it still gives me a square box, then stretches the footage.
Im missing something silly I think.

hi Richard

You say Premiere AE are we talking After Effects 7.0 here?

If so you'll need to click the rectangular box with an arrow on top in the icon tool bar under your main window. This will give you the right pixel aspect ratio for your video...

cheers
Gareth
