Special Effects Question

I'm not sure if this is the best forum for this question but I edit in PPro so I'll put it here:

Is there a way to purchase certain special effects?

Are there effects packages you can buy?

Or is it a simple process to make them?

Specifically, I need blood to spurt from a wound, Kill Bill style and don't want to do it practically - we want a CG look.

I also need an firey explosion. I have no idea where to look, though I've tried unsuccessfully.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
-- John.

Go to videocopilot.net

They have a package called action movie essentials. It is what you are looking for. It works great!

Also have a look at detonationfilms.com --- they have blood and explosions galore.

That does look good. Have you used it?

I shoot in HDV with a Z1 and a V1 - is it going to look ok when put on HDV footage? And are they easy to use? I'm hoping to just receive a group of keyed avi files that I can lay over the top of my footage.

And is there a lot of variety? There's not just one or two different explosions are there?

I have only used mini dv. I am not sure about HDV. You can e-mail them any questions you have and they ussally get back to you pretty quickly. You can check out all the footage they have on the website. They do have a lot of different parts to the package.
