Getting the Canon HV20 soon... what do I need to edit the footage?

Will Premiere Pro 1.5 do? I have the HDV patch.
Should I upgrade to 2.0?
What is the best way to get the footage into PPro in order to edit it?

I want to keep it as "native" as possible.
What settings should I choose when importing the footage? I'm hoping to film in 24P.

Any tips would be helpful as I've only ever edited SD video.

As far as I'm aware the HV20 will film in 50i/60i mode but I don;t think it records in 24p. It will play anything recorded in Canon's version of 24p or 25p. It calls it 24f or 25f depending on your location however it won't record in this format. The fact that it plays this mode allows it to be used as a cheaper dv deck for Canon's higher level digital video cameras like the XHA1 and XHG1.

2.0 won't edit in the intermediate format that 1.51 operates with. That is essentially an early version of the Cineform codec. 2.0 edits in "native" format (capturing .m2t files.) It does use more horsepower, and you need to consider having a dual core system, if you don't already. I do fine with and AMD 3800+ self built.

You can also buy Aspect for Cineform. The selling point is easier editing without as much loss in successive renders. 1 hour of captured .m2t about 13 gigs, using Cineform, about 30 or more.

I think you know that Marks comment about HV20 not having 24p is not true, as that is main selling point of the HV20. I ordered one, and we are about to find out what its all about.....
