Making a Broadcast Master
Hi,
I am editing in Premiere Pro CC 2014 on a Windows machine. The edit is a Documentary of 48 minutes and need to create a master for distribution which is required in "Apple Prores HQ 422 PAL" I understand that on windows machine its not possible to create a Pro Res file directly from Premiere pro cc 2014 Can any one suggest a method that worked for broadcast in such a case. thanks |

Re: Making a Broadcast Master
As you cannot export ProRes from a Windows machine, I would try Avid DNxHD format which will be quite comparable in quality. You could then take that file to someone with a Mac and get it converted to ProRes. Any generational quality loss should be virtually undetectable.
Thanks

Re: Making a Broadcast Master
2nd that - export to DNxHD then get someone with a Mac to transcode to ProRes.
I'm surprised that the broadcaster will only accept ProRes - I've found they normally prefer DNxHD or even an XDCAM export as they are more universal.

Re: Making a Broadcast Master
Thanks John, Jeff
I think i would be able to do a DNxHD export , i was just looking at the guidelines and i found some strange things like i need to deliver 2 copies of the Master with below audio setups Audio set up: Track 1 and 2: Full Mix Track 3 and 4: Full Mix minus narration As i see it DNH HD may have 2 tracks only or am i missing some point. Also is there any program which can encode Prores from DNxHD on Windows. |

Re: Making a Broadcast Master
1. DNH HD from Premiere may have 32 audio tracks tracks.
2. ffmpeg can encode Prores from DNxHD on Windows ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FFmpeg ). |

Re: Making a Broadcast Master

I managed to export out DNxHD from Premiere and then encode it via ffmpeg to prores. Used the "AnotherGUI" as the front end and it was very neat to operate. thanks a ton folks it was very helpful |

Re: Making a Broadcast Master
Hi ,
I think i could make the Video part of this work however the audio part of the mix is something that confuses me, I have currently 5 audio tracks, the first 4 are with foley & music the 5th one is the Voice over now i need to make only one export that has 4 Audio channels that Track 1 and 2: Full Mix Track 3 and 4: Full Mix minus narration The method adopted by me was that i made a new sequence with multichannel setup having 4 Audio channels and mapped them For Channel 1 - Tracks 1+2+3+4+5+6 Since this is to be with full mix For Channel 2 - Tracks 1+2+3+4+5+6 Since this is to be with full mix For Channel 3 - Tracks 1+2+3+4 As Track 5 has narration For Channel 4 - Tracks 1+2+3+4 As Track 5 has narration Attached the audio mix setup image used. Is this the right way of doing it as my original sequence was only a Stereo Audio setup, i needed to make a new sequence with the multichannel Audio setup. |

Re: Making a Broadcast Master
Hi,
This is a topic i started but finally a solution which may work. I used Premiere pro to export DNxHD in a quicktime wrapper with 4 channels of audio which is possible solution over windows. From there i used ffmpeg to encode the video into Prores 422 HQ and copied out the audio channels as it isthere by resulting into a Prores 422 HQ with 4 channels audio. for ffmpeg the command line code you may need is as below ffmpeg -i filenamet.mov -map 0 -c:v prores_ks -profile:v 3 -c:a copy resultantfilename.mov thought if a solution worked its good to share |
