Media cache + all files on a single drive
I often work off external drives, one per project. So I'll keep everything on that drive, project file, media files, scratch discs. So when I hand it back to the client, or open it up on their computer for supervised sessions, it's all there.
With FCP7, it was pretty easy, if a scratch disc was missing, you could change it before the project would fully open. However, with Premiere, if you set your scratch drive as described above, and you're working on multiple projects, it will prompt you that your scratch disks are unavailable, and will automatically set it to a folder on your boot drive. I'd like to be able to work more like FCP7. That means I'd need the cache and scratch on the same drive, and to be able to point to that directory, preferably before the project loads, otherwise it starts rebuilding the cache. For example, if I have 5000 files in a project that I'm opening for the first time on a client's computer, that will take a long time to cache, as well as eat space on client's computer. It is certainly easier to point to 1 directory to store the cache and set it and forget it for all projects, and if that is how I must work in CC then so be it, and maybe the solution then is to direct those file to an external drive (I'm on an Imac), then drag that external drive along with the project drive with me to client sessions. Thank you |
