Black Squares/Artifacts

I am getting ready to move so thought I should convert some of my older DV's to digital. This is a documentary I started (and never finished).

I am uploading this short span to show the artifacts I am getting. Is this a bad camera, dust on the tape, a bad playback machine?

Fortunately, I have better sound on another source, so that is not my major worry here. But the artifacts which are cropping up on the video are a major problem.

Any ideas? I believe this was shot with a Sony F7.

Thanks, Tim
