How should I run my workflow?
Hi, everyone. At work, I'm capturing footage on a Sony EX-1 and importing it onto an iMac using the XDCAM Transfer utility to .mov format. I'm discarding the BPAV files. I insist on storing the raw footage as .mov files because it's really important for the clients to be able to play the footage using QuickLook and QuickTime Pro. The work iMac has FCP X on it. I'm allowed to take the iMac home but it's bulky. The iMac will never be connected to the Internet at work due to company policy.
I only work 8 hours a week but I'm happy to do unpaid work at home. I want to edit the shows together at home. I own no video editing software of my own and I have to use a licensed copy because this is a government-funded charity. It's worth $50 a month to me to be able to edit at home, so I want to use Adobe Creative Cloud. I have a 13" MacBook Pro (current version) and a pretty decent Windows PC. Windows doesn't do the XDCAM EX codec unless I spring $150 for the calibrated version. Some of the digital juice templates are *exactly* what I need, so I'll be using them I think. What I'm thinking of doing is storing all the raw footage on the iMac under ~/Movies, then regularly cloning that to a directory on my MacBook Pro, and using Adobe CS on my MacBook Pro, and bring the completed jobs to work on my iPad or on a USB stick. Is this my best workflow? Richard Last edited by Richard Cavell; May 28th, 2012 at 04:24 AM. Reason: clarification |
