audio assign problem
I am new to Premiere CS5.5 and I want to bring my video down to the timeline with the 2 channels of audio going to track 1 and 2. Instead the audio is going down to Audio 5 and 6. When I right click on 1 and 2 the audio assign is grayed out. How to I get my 2 channels of audio down to 1 and 2. In this case it is stereo audio. I have tried make stereo to mono but still goes to 5 and 6.

Re: audio assign problem
Premiere uses different tracks for different formats, ie. stereo track for stereo files, mono tracks for mono files, etc. You can't put mono files to a stereo track. Default sequence has 3 stereo tracks, you can change it in preferences. Therefore if you want to insert mono audio, it needs to create the mono track(s) for them.
Now, if you do the audio channel mapping, and you have two mono channels, you need to select "mono", not "stereo as mono". The later option will create two mono tracks of which both are mixes of both channels. And the answer to your question: create a sequence with 2 or more mono tracks, and then put your audio clips there. You can also right click on the audio track heading, select "add tracks" and add 2 mono tracks before all other tracks. I hope it helps, and does not confuse you :)
