Re: 24GB memory on Asus P6T SE for PrPro and AE ?
Harm,
Thanks a lot for your input ! True, I used a little bit too aggressive voltages but it seems that the i7 950's are harder to overclock than the 920's.My processor, even at stock voltage runs hotter than any 920 that i've seen, even that its D0 revision; my idle temps are at 40-42C with a good aftermarket cooler (Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme - 1 push, 1 pull 120 vents @ 1200 RPM).I also checked twice the amount of grease (Arctic Silver 5) and the correct seating of the cooler. The best bet, I think it will be to lower the BCLK to ~190 and to lower as much as possible the CPU, QPI/DRAM and CPU PPL voltages. My memory is running with 1.65 V which is stock at X.M.P profile @1600 MHz.Also i will try to put the ICH( North Bridge?) from Auto, to 1,2 V. After all, I'm not into overclocking for the sake of big numbers, I was curious how snappy is Premiere, running at an 4,2 speed and with 24 GB RAM - and it was like a rocket! One question for you friends that posses 24 GB RAM and overclocked your processors.Did you find harder to attain the same speed obtained prior to have the whole 24 GB ram?And if it was so, what was the voltage which is responsible to make so much ram stable and work in tandem with the CPU? My guess is that QPI/DRAM is the main concern.Bumping this one made a lot of difference to run prime for 5 min or for 10 h. Thanks a lot and cheers to everybody! |
