Disappearing SATA attached optical drive under Win7
[No its not explicitly Adobe related...but if you burn your projects you may find this]
There are many posts on the net for SATA attached optical drives "disappearing" when you actually want to burn something. I've run Win7 x64 and CS4/5 for a year with a PATA attached BluRay drive. Purchased faster SATA attached Pioneer drive and removed old drive...and ran into the disappearing drive problem. None of the posted "fixes" worked for me. What did is reinstalling the old drive! The mere presence of the old PATA attached BR drive made the new one stay present. Points to problems with ACHI software that SATA drives use. So there! |

Disappearing discs and Win7 SP1
As mentioned in the previous posts, having a PATA disc makes my SATA disc behave.
I just installed Win7 SP1 and burried in the release notes is hotfix KB982667 which is fixes "Windows intermittently does not detect the optical disk drive when you start a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2" So MS may have addressed this for those of you with newer motherboards with no PATA option. |
