DOWNLOADING VIDEO into CS5 Problem ??

I'm having a problem, and I'm hoping someone can help me.

I've been using Adobe Premier Pro CS5 for only about a week now, and still learning. I haven't had any problems downloading video sequences into the program until now. All of them are .mpg files, and yet one of them just won't load in and even keeps locking up the computer. It's a brand new PC, custom built, and with more than enough power to handle everything.

This is a video, originally shot on a Hi8 camcorder on tape. I transferred the analog tape data onto a DVD and downloaded that into the PC. I had done exactly the same thing will all the other sequences I'm playing with, while I learn the program. As I said, all the other videos loaded in just fine, but this two hour video just will NOT.

I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions or feedback.

Thanks.

Maybe this is a shot in the dark, but is the problem occurring in this way: you go to file- import and click on the file in the list and then you are back to the time line but you can't view your file in the source monitor and when you try to put it on the timeline either nothing happens or the program locks up with that spinning ring thingie?

If that is what is happening, you probably need to wait a while for PPro to index and conform the file(s). Look in the lower right hand corner of your PPro window. Do you see a little box there with a bit of blue in it? Ifso, let that processing finish before you try to do anything with the file.

Also, look at the lower left hand corner. See any print messages there after you've tried to import the file into PPro?

If neither of that is occurring, can you be more specific about what you mean by "won't download?" For example, from where are you downloading into your PC to PPro from? The DVD? Your system drive? What is the extension on the file you are trying to import?
