gpu acceleration plug in
hi.
ive heard of the elemental plug in in ppro cs4 that was based on the badabum video converter that allowed cuda hardware acceleration during encoding. since ame doesnt feature gpu acceleration, is there a 64-bit counterpart for the elemental plug-in or any similar program available for use in ppro cs5. thanks |

MainConcept markets a CUDA-based h.264 encoder:
CUDA H.264/AVC: MainConcept At present it is only available for licensing to software developers and not to the general public. MainConcept has 64 bit codecs available, but I don't know whether the CUDA codec is also 64 bit. Elemental Technologies also markets a standalone h.264 encoder that uses CUDA: badaboomit.com But since you would have to output the timeline with AME in a compatible format and then encode with Badaboom, it won't save any time at all. Elemental has stated on its website that they are not developing a 64 bit version of their pro-level encoder. So, unfortunately, your only practical option presently to improve encoding speed is to have multiple CPU cores that are fast. A dual CPU hexacore workstation (12 cores, 24 threads) is your best bet. |

unfortunately the only system i have is a sager 8690 with a core i7 720qm and an nvdia 280m. it seems adequate for the 720p avchd source and outputs i do at present with fairly minimal effects and transitions.
however i was planning to do some SDE for weddings and events and wanted a more robust encoder that supported gpu acceleration. i could upgrade my cpu, but mobile cpu tech as it stands would probably give me marginal gains at best. i guess i am out of luck at present then with regards to gpu accelerated encoding with ppro. |
