Magic Bullet Looks and CS5

Anyone using the above combination? Is it working okay for you? I've noticed one or two places where MBL might be responsible for hanging PPro and also suddenly refusing to play. Is this just me or has anyone else noticed anything similar?

cheers
paul

I haven't noticed this yet. What are your exact steps, so I can replicate them?

I would like to add, is anyone using the above with Cineform intermediate files with success? I am experiencing the same hanging issue.

It has crashed CS5 a few times for me...not sure how to repilcate it yet, but I do save often when using it now.

Does it happen when you are exporting?

Crossfades

After doing extensive testing and process of elimination, I have come to the conclusion that it is not the software combo but crossfades that are causing exports to crash. WHY?!?!?

Are these crossfades between two clips from the same instance?

Are your source clips AVCHD? Sounds very similar to this known issue...

I have been using Magic Bullet Looks, CS5 and Cineform. With a very well spec'd out PC + nVidia FX4800. I have found "Looks" to be quite slow and it appears not to be using Nvidia Cuda as the playback is often so choppy. Exports so far has been OK. Boris Continuum BCC7 effects are much faster and IMHO much better however I have stopped using these also because they just seem to constantly crash the application, hopefully these companies will provide updates to fix some of these bugs. While I love CS5, the honeymoon is over and unfortunately I have to say there are still bugs and glitches when playing with third party apps. The only real solution is to not use any at all or use AE.

Rich,

MBL doesn't use CUDA i think all the code predates that and you're not going to see realtime playback with MBL (although a GTX285 is quite a bit faster than my old FireGL v5600)

What would be useful would be to globally turn off MBL for editing and pop it back on for grading. I'm not sure whether there's a way to do this. It would be cool if PPro could support scripting!

I had a look at a trial of boris and some do seem to be pretty fast but not real time either.

For real time you're going to be stock with adobe MPE enhanced plugins.

Ann/Xian

For my test case the clips are different sources.

Harm

I have a steps to reproduce in the cineform forum, it would be useful if you could spare the time to try if you have all the software bits.

thanks
paul

Paul,

There are no plug-ins that can use CUDA/MPE.

I don't have Cineform, but I'll have a look at your steps and keep you informed.
