With Premiere, you do NOT get realtime monitoring of HDV via Firewire. Print to Tape of course works fine, but Premiere must first RENDER the output file back to .m2t (or whatever the native format is) before sending the stream back to the camera.
Black Magic Intensity or Matrox MXO2 Mini are examples are hardware for Premiere that will give you SD and HD monitoring (and capture) via HDMI and analog, probably what you are looking for when finances allow. Personally, at home, I use the Matrox RT.X2 hardware which has DVI and analog out and when I edit HDV in CS3, I see full 1080i on a 24" LCD, very nice to work with Jeff Pulera Safe Harbor Computers

Thanks Jeff and Adam,
That makes sense. Mystery solved. Would be nice of Premier to be clear of that in their documentation. Cheers |
