YouTube 3D Camcorder
Yesterday I ordered Youtube 3D Camcorder direct from China. I was rather hesitant because I have never dealt with a Chinese company before, and they do not accept returns if you are not satisfied with the product, so it is a shot in the dark.
When it comes (24 hours later, they have not shipped it yet), I will make some test footage and post it to YouTube. I’ll let you know when that happens. The one thing I am not happy about is they have been sending me two emails every day since I signed up with their web site, trying to convince me to become an importer, even encouraging me to travel to China! Sheesh! Do they think I’m a millionaire? |

Wow, you’re right. Maybe I should order a bunch of them and resell them on Amazon. :)

Re: YouTube 3D Camcorder
I got the camera today but did not realize it was left at the bottom of the stairs all day (so much for requiring a signature). I just found it and just shot my room with just regular room lights. It appears to be half-width side-by-side. Alas, I am unable to open the file in Sony Vegas. :)
But at least here is the data from MediaInfo: General Complete name : C:\Users\Adam\Pictures\DCIM\300VID3D\MP3D0001.AVI Format : AVI Format/Info : Audio Video Interleave File size : 6.24 MiB Duration : 12s 980ms Overall bit rate : 4 034 Kbps Video ID : 0 Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : Main@L4.0 Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 1 frame Format settings, GOP : M=1, N=5 Codec ID : H264 Duration : 12s 980ms Bit rate : 3 663 Kbps Width : 848 pixels Height : 480 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate : 29.970 fps Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 Bit depth : 8 bits Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.300 Stream size : 5.67 MiB (91%) Audio ID : 1 Format : ADPCM Codec ID : 2 Codec ID/Hint : Microsoft Duration : 12s 966ms Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 352.8 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Sampling rate : 44.1 KHz Bit depth : 4 bits Stream size : 565 KiB (9%) Interleave, duration : 23 ms (0.69 video frame) |

Re: YouTube 3D Camcorder
Here are some observations: The distance between the centers of the two lenses is only 15 mm, only about one fourth of the human interocular distance. It makes decent stereo imagery up to about 2 meters away, with everything else being essentially in 2D. The 3D videos are wide screen SD, not HD. The camera has a 1/4" CCD. Because the two views are half width, the definition of each view is less than DVD quality.
The viewscreen is autostereoscopic, that is, requires on glasses. There is no way to align the Y dimension of the left and right views because there is no way seeing them as two 2D views. It can also be used as a 2D camera in 720p HD, and that looks decent for a camera in its class. The camera is very small, comes with a pouch that has a belt loop, so it can be carried on one’s belt. It also fits in a pocket of a coat or a jacket. I am certainly glad I did not pay the double price on Amazon! I do not think it is worth that price, but the Chinese price was acceptable (and it only took several days to arrive via DHL). |
