SxS-1 firmware update!
Pulled from another forum:
Sony issued a Firmware update/recall of sorts for certain SXS-1 32 Gig cards on August 24 2010. (The Orange Card) Quoted from Sony's PDF: "The purpose of this announcement is to inform you of an important firmware update for your SxS-1 Memory Card (MODEL: SBS-32G1). In recent months it has been discovered that, on very rare occasions, while shooting with an SxS-1 memory card, the camera will stop recording before the card is full and a “media error” message will appear on the camera LCD. This latest firmware update provides protection from this occurrence. Sony recommends that you contact us at your earliest convenience to have your SxS-1 memory cards updated with this important firmware. NOTE: SxS PRO memory cards (MODELS: SBP-8, SBP-16, SBP-32) are NOT affected." More info: http://pro.sony.com/bbsccms/static/f...update0810.pdf ----------- My question is: is 7CMxxxxx affected or not? And if so: do I have to send it from the Netherlands to the US?

Firmware update
Having followed the SONY instructions carefully - I've just had the UPS man at the door to pick up my 2 SXS cards - only to find that according to UPS - the listed Sony UPS account number doesn't exist - and there's no delivery address either. Has anyone managed a successful pick up? I assume this isn't an internet hoax by someone who's amassing a large collection of 32GB SxS cards!?

I'm sure it's not a hoax - me dealer Prokit www.prolit.co.uk sent me the PDF - they should be able to help - or indeed your dealer if they are certified by Sony.

SxS upgrade
Actually - you're wrong. It really isn't Fed Ex (at least not in the UK) - it's UPS if you read the pdf. But the very helpful Dave at CCK in London (the UK SxS distributors) has been in touch with Sony, and apparently some vital info (the address!) was missed off the circulars that went out.
That's now been corrected, though the account number (which UPS claim doesn't exist) is still there. So we'll see... New pdf attached. Last edited by Chris Loughlin; September 7th, 2010 at 09:45 AM. Reason: pdf added |

Chauk one up for Sony!
I sent my SXS-1 in yesterday (here in the US) via FedEx, and I got a call from them today. They wanted my permission to reformat the card and update the firmware. (I neglected to delete the footage first - but it wasn't important stuff or anything - just a few test clips and a PP file - which I didn't care about losing) Anyway, this is a friendly reminder to always check to make sure your footage was copied first, and then delete it before sending them the card. I thought Sony Service went above and beyond to call me and question the upgrade when files existed on the card. Way to go, Sony! :)

Anyone in the UK managed an SxS-1 upgrade yet?
Has anyone from the UK actually managed to get their SxS-32G1 cards upgraded by Sony yet?
I've just tried again, and the UPS booking form says that the account number given by Sony can't be billed... So even the updated pdf from Sony seems to have the wrong account info on it. This is now the 2nd time I've tried and failed to get this update sorted out. There's not much help on the Sony website (at least not that I can find anyway). Any authoritative info from anyone gratefully received... |

Success
I've tried again on the UPS website, and this time the account number seems to have been accepted. So maybe it was just a glitch before... Will see what happens when the UPS man comes tomorrow!
