My RØDE Reel 2016 – Winners Announced

Friday 15th July 2016, Sydney Australia – Leading pro-audio brand RØDE Microphones is excited to announce ‘My RØDE Reel’ has wrapped its third year, and as promised, it was the biggest one yet.

The world’s largest short film competition surpassed previous records, with over 1200 entries submitted, an increase of 8% from 2015. The global reach continues to rise as well, with entries coming in from over 85 countries.

RØDE Microphones was proud to award 16 prizes across the technical and genre categories to filmmakers of different age groups, skill level and country of origin. As well as the 5 major prize winners:

• Young Filmmaker to William Royal (UK) for the film Serenity
• Female Filmmaker Larica Perera (Canada) for Tik-Tik
• BTS to Normandie Productions (USA) and their film DUE/AL
• People’s Choice went to Power Play by the Sketch Juice team (USA)
• Judges’ Film went to Jay Red (Ireland) and his gripping drama Streetlights

Judges Shane Hurlbut ASC, Philip Bloom and Rodney Charters ASC CSC, were extremely impressed with the calibre of entries this year, with Shane saying of the winning film Streetlights, “Three minutes is a difficult amount of time to transport a person, to move, to emote. This film does it so well, I love the twist at the end.”

“The quality this year has been remarkable,” agrees Sales and Marketing Director Damien Wilson, adding, “our Female Filmmaker category saw a significant increase in the number of women who entered. Larica Perera’s category winning film, Tik-Tik is sensational.”

RØDE Microphones brought together the most respected brands in filmmaking, to assemble an incredible prize pool valued at more than $300,000, to be divided amongst the 21 winners.

This includes products from Adobe, Angelbird, Atomos, Blackmagic Design, Blastwave FX, Bright Tangerine, F&V, FilmConvert, Freefly, G-Technology, KesslerCrane, Miller, Movcam, Music Bed, New York Film Academy, NiSi, Paralinx, Red Giant, Sachtler, Shane’s Inner Circle, SmallHD, Story & Heart, Teradek, ZEISS, and of course RØDE.

Jay Red has said of this year’s prize pack, “these prizes are unbelievable and an absolute godsend for me, I had just one camera and a few lights and mics for Streetlights, now I will have the gear to bring my film projects up onto a much higher and professional standard”.
