Vegas 5.0d - Dual Xeons, 2 gigs ram, 1terrabyte raid, 256meg pci Xpress - Sony HDR-FX1

I capture a raw .m2t file... It all looks beautiful and plays perfect.


I drop that file into Dvd Architect... It compresses for the dvd... When I watch the DVD... at some point in time... The video and audio become badly out of sync...


ANY IDEAS?

This poop is killing me!

I have not seriously worked with any m2t files but my first question would be: Why not render to MPEG2 in Vegas? It has more controls on the rendering than DVDA does.

I can't convert the .m2t file to the more workable .avi form.... because the same thing happens... the video and audio become horribly out of sync.

Is the project set up properly for the type of file you're using?

Just wondering if you're framerates are mismatched, or the framerate on that file is being reported incorrectly, or maybe the audio rate is being reported incorrectly.

I am going to mess with it more today and report back.

But this is the most trouble I have had editing.... since I was using an ISA card capturing at 320x200!

Have you checked the field order?

If you have Vegas 5 and ConnectHD, you should be able to select one of the HDV editing presets. Even if you do select one of these presets, check the clip properties once its been placed on the timeline, to make certain everything is as it should be. (1440x1080 60i if NTSC, 1.333 aspect ratio, 16:9, Upper Field first, 48Hz stereo MPEG layer2.)

I've always wondered why Vegas insists on making FX-1 HDV frame rates appear progressive. My PAL 50i clips are constantly reported as 25fps, and despite my changing the qualities to 50 interlaced fps, the rendered clips play fine. You may find with NTSC 60i that the difference between 29.97 and 30fps could be playing havoc with the audio sync. so perhaps give that a check....

Have you tried converting the m2t files to progressive CFHD in Connect's HD Link tool before loading them in Vegas?

Not that I've done a lot of 'talking head stuff', but I haven't noticed any sync. issues with the performance clips I've shot, which is why I'm reasoning that the field order issue might be your problem.

If you're wanting to render out as a DV or DVD level final product, it is still best to set your project up with HDV characteristics, and render out any test clips etc. as CFHD intermediate, until the final render.

When you're sure you have everything the way you want, set your 'Render As' to the format that you want and check the custom settings to make any necessary adjustments.

Still no luck....

If worse comes to worse, get in touch with Sony support directly.
Ask them if you can send them the project files with the media so they can reproduce the problem.

Their support team is very good.
