Mackie Control Pro w Vegas?

Ive seen some posts on this but dont remember the vibe... Does this control surface work with vegas and can it be linked to the new audio console in V8? Does it serve any purpose related to speed or control that is better than a mouse and keyboard? Really close to trying it but, not if its a $1200 gimmick.
