can Vegas do a nice job a deinterlacing?
In other words, does the software From DVFILMAKER do a nice job?
Would you rely on what Vegas does to deinterlace a movie meant to go to DVD productions and maybe film out? |
so far I don't have any complaints. But I only use it once in a while.

The de-interlace methods in Vegas are the simplest (and not the best) methods for de-interlacing.
Mike Crash's filter should do a slightly better job. http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=52097 DV filmmaker likely does a better job (though I haven't compared). The best de-interlacers do motion compensation and are either pretty slow or pretty expensive (e.g. they are hardware-accelerated, like the Teranex standards conversion boxes). |
If you want plain 60i to 30p deinterlacing, setting your project settings to Progressive Scan, and Interpolate Fields... and then preview settings to Preview Auto/Half or Good Full seems to do a good job for me... maybe there are better methods though...

Glenn,
Do you know how Mike Crash's de-interlace filter compares to VASST's Celluloid 24P script? Brian |
Joe, i wasn't aware that setting your preview settings had any affect on video being rendered from the timeline, is ths really the case or have i misread what you've wrote?
|
Mike Crash's filter is free/donationware and can do a better job than Vegas.
2- Quote:
One converts to 30p/25p. The other can convert from 60i to 24p (uses Vegas' deinterlacer / the Vegas engine I believe). Celluloid does film looks (using the Vegas engine/filters). |
Daniel, the timeline preview has no effect on render quality.
to preview the interpolated deinterlace in the timeline, set your preview to good or best .. (but it likely won't playback in realtime, my quad box doesn't) Project settings does let you set 'render' quality, which needs to be Good or Best to do a proper interpolated deinterlace. Obviously always use Best. |
Thanks Kris, was just making sure :)

Keeping on the subject of de-interlacing has anyone had any direct comparison between Mike Crash's de-interlace filter and red giants magic bullet suite in after effects? Personally i don't see much difference although i would love to hear some positive feedback from people who have, after i spent so much money on it
