I do not learn from books, takes me forever, but I do great with DVD's Online training etc. will go that route for sure. usually once I get into the program and learn the basics can left and right click my way to where I want to go.

Denny, one of the things (for me) that is great about Vegas is that it is hugely intuitive. You really can be editing right away. Open a new project, import some video files, drag 'em into the timeline (overlap to cross-dissolve, upper video track for titles...etc). You might find that a couple of pots of coffee, and a few hours of dragging and dropping... and a few visits here, and you're on your way.
Now, to really explore the potential of Vegas... then invest in some training stuff, but you should be able to get going pretty easily.
