Daniel - whatever gear you choose I would go in the direction of spending your budget to get 2 devices so that you have always have a backup. I use a wireless system in conjunction with an old iRiver mp3 recorder with a Giant Squid lav mic. I've had two occasions in the past 4 years of a primary failure on the wireless and my backup saved my butt. I've thought about ditching the wireless at some point but don't like the idea of not being able to monitor what I'm recording. Good Luck!
