Onboard monitor for XL1
 

Hi gang:

I have a great project in a couple of days--need to scramble to put together three high-end XL1/Mini35 packages.

How are people mounting onboard LCD's onto the XL1? We will have the FU1000 with the shoe on top, but I'm wondering if having the extra weight makes the viewfinder wanky. Other options?

They have everything you need. Tell Rob and Galen I said howdy.

I just mount mine on the shoe of the stock viewfinder with a ball mount in between. There may be some issues with clearing the stock microphone, if you can't rotate your LCD screen at all. Depends on the LCD though I guess.

The Nebtek method of using Canon batteries for power is the way to go. Like Dylan, I've used mine on my hotshoe mount, but I've been thinking about putting together a bracket to hold it out level to the camera and to the left.

Thanks all. For some reason I forgot about Nebtek. I've been using one of their LCD's for my backup Steadicam monitor for about 4 years now. I think I gave Galen the idea for something that he integrated into his current monitors--can't remember what it is now, so I can't take credit for it!

I have a follow question about monitors. Are they accurate (say for instance the mentioned nebtek models)? And do they offer 100% field of view?

James, the Panasonics do display the entire frame, even when shooting 16x9. It's selectable via a screen based menu.
