DIY Battery Powered HD Field Monitor
 

I came up with a DIY HD Field Monitor for the technically challenged (me). The cool thing is that it can run on batteries.

15" Polaroid HDTV (Model TLX-01511C) 1200x800 resolution: $228 at Walmart. It has component and HDMI connections.

The TV has a flat plastic base. Drill a hole through the plastic. Scavenge a quick release plate from an un-used tripod and remove the 1/4" 20 screw. Replace with a longer screw and secure to the bottom of the TV plastic base with a washer and nut. Now it can be mounted on a tripod or it can still sit flat on a table (without the quick-release plate) and function as a second screen for editing (I have an iMac).

I connected it to the iMac using using the Apple Mini DVI to DVI in conjunction with a DVI to HDMI cable.

For battery power, I bought a DC to AC inverter made by PowerLine at Walmart (model 9900-73) for $38.00. Its meant to power electronics from a car's cigarette lighter. I attached it to my 12v Bescor Lead Acid battery that has Female Car Lighter receptacle. If anyone is interested, I'll see how long a fully charged battery can power the TV.

Any way, you can burst my bubble if you want, but I'm happy with it. My eyes are going bad and I couldn't see to focus on my XH-A1. This is going to be a big help for me.
