Local Wildlife
I still havn't written anything to shoot, other than my lady X submission, so I decided to head on out to the side of my house at night to have a look at the local wildlife.

nnnnn K.
What kind of camera? If you are gonna get that close, you need to have Macro so you can focus. or telephoto from a distance on a tripod. Feed him a grasshopper or a fly for some good action Keep shooting! |

HOLY CRAP STEVE!
good stuff! |
Sadly, in the 4 years I've lived in Las Vegas, I've only seen one praying mantis. Also, I looked around for something to feed that spider but saw nothing except other black widows. (There's about 30 along the outside walls of my street, That one was the biggest) I think I'm gonna go buy some crickets at the pet store, and see if I can capture that on tape.
|
I've been feeding my black Widow mostly moths, and the occasional fly. I keep her in a empty peanut butter jar. I forgot to feed her for a week, and she went nuts over a moth, chasing after it.
|
black widows??????...............you guys are nuts!
(but please do get some footage on tape) (Hey if you guys want- I could shoot some very exotic orchid mantises catching flys mid-air- they're awesome!!!- they're the prettiest mantids you'll ever see) |
|
I just caught an eastern red bat- I may try to catch some video of him/her eating insects.......if anyone's interested I'll get to videotaping!
|
I'm interested!!!
|
Unfortunately the bat just passed away- I think it was at the end of it's life- sad to see the little creature so lifeless.....this is the time of the year when the elderly bats pick a spot and just settle into a slumber and expire.
If anything else should be of interest i'll put a post here. |
Although the bat has died- our local NYC redtail hawks are surviving.....here's a video you guys might like.....

Hey Steve, great shot of the Mantis. Listen, if you want to add to that I have some great macro of a mantis laying an egg pod, as well as the little baby mantids. Life is great, so go shoot it. Bob

Just saw and enjoyed your redtail hawk video, Steve, thank you.
I really must learn how to present a snippet of griffons cruising on the updraughts, but your sequences benefited from being mixed with close-ups at feeding perches and I've none of those yet. Onward! Any more of the same since 2003, Steve? |
