Fibertec vs flowtech 100

How does the Flowtech 100 compare to the Vinten Fibertec in terms of rigidity? Which sticks would be better for long lens work?

Hello, Dan. Welcome to DVinfo.

I'm going to take a rather oblique approach to your post by saying the only people who MIGHT be able to answer your specific question are either Vinten or Sachtler and I have my doubts either are going to be that forthcoming.

However, in some respects the answer is almost irrelevant provided the Flowtech is in the same ball park as the Fibertec. If it is then both sets of sticks will take you past the limits inherent in the camera/ QR plate interface used.

Too oblique? If it's a single 1/4" X 24 screw interface you simply cannot stop the camera wobbling side to side in any breeze over 10 knots. If it's a twin in-line 3/8" X 16 interface ditto. I know of no other interface available on any consumer or prosumer video camera on the market.

Keep the lens shorter than 300mm (35mm equivalent) and you'll possibly never see it, rack it out to 500mm + and it leaps off the HD screen and smacks you between the eyes.

And no, this is NOT stick wobble, it IS interface wobble. No breeze? No problem. Just never touch the camera @ 500+mm whilst rolling, remote control mandatory.

BTW where are you going to get your hands on a set of Fibertec's? I got one of the last off the Vinten production line well over a decade ago.
