Quick Release for Stills and Video - Part 1

8 Attachment(s)
I come from a "stills" background, and still shoot stills more than video. Many professional and dedicated amateur stills shooter prefer a ball head with an "arca swiss" quick release when using a tripod. Such shooters also tend to leave the related camera plates on their cameras all the time. I do.

When switching from shooting hand-held, to shooting stills on a ball head equipped tripod, to shooting video on a video fluid head (on a tripod or a monopod) there is a complication. The orientation of the camera plate is perpendicular to the orientation of the plates for video quick releases. With some help from the good folks at Really Right Stuff, I have arrived at a solution.

I have included photos using both a Canon 5D3 and a Sony A7s.
This first batch of photos show the camera plates on the cameras, which stay on all the time, plus a RRS rail and RRS perpendicular quick release clamp, plus a Kessler Qwik release receiver. Part 2 will provide more photos.
