Any Alternatives to Miller 313 Quick Releases?
$160 for a quick release so I can change my camera from the DS20 to another platform seems a bit absurd.
Are there any alternatives or am I going to have to bite the bullet? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/599349-REG/Miller_313_313_Quick_Release_Adapter.html |
Re: Any Alternatives to Miller 313 Quick Releases?
I've heard great things about the Really Right Stuff quick releases, they're a little cheaper than the Miller.

Re: Any Alternatives to Miller 313 Quick Releases?
Hi
- Manfrotto 357, $48 at B&H - Manfrotto 577, $51 at B&H - Both come with a mounting plate. - Beware though, the plates are not compatible between the two quick connectors. - The 357 is compatible with the 316, 510, 516 and 526 heads. - The 577 is compatible with the 501/501HDV, 503/503HDV, 504 and 519 heads. - Cheaper than Miller, same functionality. Re: Any Alternatives to Miller 313 Quick Releases?
I come from a photography background and use DSLR cameras with Arca-Swiss compatible plates. I have a kirk ballhead, so on my tripods and rigs, I put kirk quick release clamps on them and change about cameras easily. They're about 50 bucks a piece from kirkphoto.com, not including quick release, but really right stuff seems to be a better option if you're into spending more.

Re: Any Alternatives to Miller 313 Quick Releases?
The worst thing about that Miller plate is that its not flat on the bottom limiting what you can mount it to. "Brilliant" design for way too much money.

Re: Any Alternatives to Miller 313 Quick Releases?
I'm facing the same pain at the moment, looking at $90 for a simple Miller 860 plate to use with a $240 jib... it's a bit ridiculous really - in fact I might see if I can simply get some fabricated (it surely can't cost much for such a small amount of metal?).

Because I have DS20 and need to be able to use the same camera plate so I can attach the camera the second quick release. |

Er, Glyn.................
If you'd answered my question of some time ago, like over a week, maybe we'd be a bit further forward with this. As I , and strangely enough, nobody else but you, have a bloody clue what "another platform" is, we're shooting in the dark. What is it you want to do, with what? I'm afraid that two short form lines in a post simply isn't going to cut the mustard with getting an answer here, care to educate us. CS |
Re: Any Alternatives to Miller 313 Quick Releases?
Hi Glynn
It's pretty simple to use the 577 adaptor. Mount your Miller plate under the 577, put it on the Miller head. Now you can use Manfrotto plates on your cameras. Do you have more than one tripod with different plates? Get more adaptors, use Manfrotto plates for all of them. Regards, /Bo |

If I am stacking them though, maybe I should just bite the bullet and get the 313 and another miller plate? edit: nevermind, your plan seems to be the best haha, cheers for your help! |
