Sachtler finally revamps Video 18 an Video 20 heads
Sachtler showed two new revamped versions of the classic Video 18 and Video 20 heads. The main exciting thing I see is that they have "detuned" the minimum weights way down to be able to support EX1, HPX170 and even loaded DSLRs on these heads, while instigating a new boost mode that allows the maximum weight ratings all of the way up to 40 or 50 lbs.

As you say, Dan.........
Nice!

Wow, revolutionary! Hardly a revamp I'd say, just a new dial and a slight expansion of the payload range. Maybe they'll eventually catch up with O'Connor (and even Vinten) and get a counterbalance that goes steplessly from zero to maximum, so you could use anything from a 5D to a Panaflex.

It rather looks like they're doing the counterbalance in steps using that dial on the back. Being able to use the light cameras is a big plus, a quality tripod working well within it's capabilities is a delight to use.
I don't know about a Panaflex, that's very much 150mm bowl territory, but the lighter RED rigs should a possibility. |
Want one of those badly!
With the camera market changing faster and faster it's almost scary to buy the older Video 15/18/20 heads as they have much more narrow counter balance range. A Video20 S1 on a set of CF speedlock HD legs would be a nice kit....in the 10grand price range though, but the larger sachtlers tend to last for years. |
