NZ HD Freeview news...........
Better late than never, seem to have missed this somehow:
http://freeviewnz.tv/images/media_re...sound_doc1.pdf Of course, this raises the question of suitable decoders. Not an area of particular knowledge on my part, tho' I'm aware that to date no terrestrial NZ channels have transmitted surround (heck, I'm not even sure about stereo!) and thus none of the screens have inbuilt decoders for same (unlike the UK, where they do and have). I'll be interested to see whether the new Freeview HD DTR's have suitable decoders, come to think of it, I wonder if the existing HD Freeview set top boxes have? Anyone have a clue what sort of set up would be required to make this all happen in a NZ environment? CS PS: Still no word on the availability of Freeview HD DTR's. Supposedly before Xmas but think they're cutting it fine. |
China is still stuck in Mono sound and had only recently made the move to 5.1 with their version of ATSC: DMB-T/H.
Stereo's fairly new in the broadcasting business in China, that's why most stations still stick to tried and true mono sound. |
