I have quite a bit of experience in distribution (I used to be distributor) and this is the first broadcaster that I have come across that insists on dealing via a distributor.
As you imply, it seems very convenient that they are then suggesting using their own distributor. This almost seems like an unfair trading practice except that they don't seem to be insisting that you use their distributor.
In this case you are losing out because just about all the work has been done to make the deal so there really isn't any reason for you to have to have to pay a commission to a distributor for this sale.
It does sound like a fishing exercise on their part ie to build up a distribution catalogue.
I wouldn't feel very comfortable dealing with them.

It also sounds like a way to pay themselves back 50% of their purchase price. The woman who contacted me on behalf of the broadcaster is also the one who sent me the distribution contract...
