Renting an EX1 - Please help
I'm renting an EX1 to shoot an interview and B-roll (in 16x9 SD) then send the final 20 minutes or so to the television station via Vyvx (fiber optic).
Questions: The SDI output... when playing back the SD material does it output BOTH the video and the audio together? If I shoot multiple takes (clips) pausing in between... when I go to play back will the camera play out all the material continuously (like a tape) until it runs out or must each clip be cued up? I read somewhere... may be I got this wrong... you need to be careful of the on screen display or it gets recorded and fed out the SDI. Please correct me on this. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated. |
Re: Renting an EX1 - Please help
I don't know if the SDI output has embedded audio.
You have to play each clip You can turn the display off in the menus for the SDI on an EX1R. Not sure about the EX-1. It was in the manual on the EX1R tho. EDIT: I have an EX1R not an EX-1. |
Re: Renting an EX1 - Please help
Audio is embedded on SDI.

Re: Renting an EX1 - Please help
The EX1 doesn't shoot SD. But you can set the SDI output to SD. You should experiment to see it the internal downscaler looks better with a 1080 or 720 original. Of course if you are shooting interlaced then 1080i is your only option.
The SDI output does not have information superimposed on it, unless you switch that option on. And yes, multiple clips recorded separately will playback seamlessly one after another when you play them back (the camera will need to be in 'media' mode to playback). Duncan. |
Re: Renting an EX1 - Please help
Thanks for the help. All went well. Shot it as 1080I and output as 480I up the Vyvx pipe to Canada.
You folks are the best. Always willing to help another. : ) |
