ex3 GURUS I need gear Input
I have a ex3 that I use for a variety of different types of shoots, yesterday I was on the roof of a fire station and days before I'm shooting celebs at MTV awards on the red carpet.
I really want to stay as compact as I can I'm using standard sony battery's and sxs cards Ok I need advice on mounting audio receivers, I don't have any yet but I'm leaning towards lectrosonics compact 401 series , not sure yet. tripod mounts I have a spare vct-14 plate Is any one using an adapter ? What kind ? And finally shoulder mounts ?? Thanks Pics of setup would be cool also |
Re: ex3 GURUS I need gear Input
If you really want to stay compact then don't start adding brackets and shoulder mounts as the size and bulk of the camera will increase very quickly. For a single radio mic I normally use a cold shoe mount clipped in to the mount on the back of the handle.
The one accessory I regard as essential is a reinforcing base plate such as the DM-Accessories one as these will prevent breakage of the somewhat flimsy tripod mount and make tripod mounting much more secure and stable. If you do want to use a VCT-14 then you can use the Genus GAP plate that allow the camera to fit on to a VCT-14. |
Re: ex3 GURUS I need gear Input
I use the Sennheiser receiver- not on an EX3 but on a PMW-500, temporarily - and that one is so light that I can stick it anywhere on the camera with some velcro and adhesive tape. In principle the antenna of the receiver should be in a vertical position, as the polarisation of the transmitter signal is also vertical most of the time. So I try to keep the receiver antenna as vertical as possible. Helps getting a noisefree reception.

Re: ex3 GURUS I need gear Input
An interesting note that I will try out. I have been using the Sennheiser receiver on the cold shoe at the front of my ex3 which makes the aerial horizontal.... not really experienced any issues due to that though..
I sometime use two on a bracket fixed to the coldshoe on the front and I've not had noisy reception on either.. yet... I do need to get the DM plate - the ex3 does wobble in a strong breeze without it.. |

hard to beat olofs shoulder mount for the ex cameras. you can mount an anton bauer dionic on the back which gives it great balance.

I don't think it would be in the way of anything here, except maybe the battery-release button, but that's not a big deal. Second question: Velcro is so strong. Do you think you need adhesive tape too? Brent... back to your question. My favorite 'extra', aside from a 64GB SxS card, is my HoodLoupe Kit. Worth checking out. Regards, Malcolm |
