XDCAM and CS4
Hello,
I've recently completed a job for a client that I shot on the EX3, I gave him the footage straight from XDCAM Transfer as mov files. He called me up the next day saying is trying to edit it on Premiere CS4. I have now sent him the original BPAV folder from the camera but my question is (as a FCP user) will he be able to import the footage from there. I am trying to provide him for the quickest solution for this problem, as he's already waiting to start the edit. Any help you be greatly appreciated. James |
Premiere Pro CS4 should handle the BPAV.
BTW NEVER give the .mov to anyone unless they explicitly say they're using FCP. BPAV are your camera masters and it's the "universal" you can distribute. In fact FCP itself can save the edited sequence as XDCAM EX .mp4 if a non FCP person needs to work on your master. |
Thanks Craig, Yes It was a mistake on my part, I just presumed.
In terms of importing, what are the steps so I can help him out as much as possible Thanks |
Double click in the project media window. Browse to the BPAV folder. Import whatever files you want.

Actually, importing the entire BPAV folder is the best way to go in PPro. Premiere Pro can grab everything in the folder that it needs and it will simply leave whatever it doesn't need behind.
There will be a dialog that will come up and say something about the files it can't load...just click OK and get on with it. The media will simply come up as a bin folder in the Project Panel and they start cutting it. There just isn't much to it. ...certainly no log and capture or rewrapping steps to worry about. |
Great, Thanks for all you help. This is defiantly for CS4

Well, Sony has workflow for CS3 online. A little behind the times me thinks but thought I'd point you to it.
