Thanks all. I ended up sending to Olof Ekbergh. He fixed the receptacle and added a much stronger base plate cheaper and quicker than Sony would have. Here's some photos:

I just went through a similar scenario with a broken tripod mount and bought the replacement part and an extra screw. One of the screw holes was stripped, but that was enough to cause the camera to shake when attached to the tripod.

The camera was sent to Sony and the estimate for repair was over $800! The best solution it seems is to invest in the new bottom plates that have been discussed on this forum.
