PMW-EX with a 1/2 inch lens - power?

Hi
At the time I got my EX 3 I got a 1/2" adapter for "broadcast" lenses. At the moment I cannot find it but perhaps you could help me.
Is there any Zoom factor when using that adapter ?
Is there provided any kind of power to the lens so the electric zoom can be used - as I remember there is not any 12 pin connecter. Does it provide connection through the adapter to pins inside the lens???

Bo,

If you use a professional, broadcast 1/2" lens the power, auto-irs, and any other communication with the camera is transmitted through electrical contacts in the bayonet mount. 1/2" lenses generally do not have a mutli-pin cables dangling from them like 2/3" lenes.

There is no magnification factor when you use a 1/2" broadcast lens.

Great - thanks - now I know what I have to look for

Are you sure you mean a 1/2" adapter as one of these, the ACM-18 is supplied with the camera. Perhaps you mean a 1/2" to 2/3" adapter. If using a 2/3" lens (the majority of broadcast lenses) there is a 1.34 x magnification factor. As Doug says half inch lenses connect via pins built into the lens mount. 2/3" lenses however use a cable with a plug. To take advantage of this you need the Fujinon ACM-21 which adds a socket to power the lens, but is an expensive adapter. Too expensive if you ask me! There are cheaper 1/2" to 2/3" adapters but these don't have the lens connector, so you would need to work out some other way of powering the lens.

Hi- I bought the 2/3 adapter and it has a zoom factor with my 2/3" lenses. It works ok when there is light enough and even ok with the 2x extender on the lens. Lens data and power is suplied through the lens adapter - from the camera pins to a 12 pin standard lens connection on the adapter.

What I need is a lens that can fully be used on the ex3 with zoom (witout zoomfactor) etc. but it should not be the standard suplied lens or the wide angle that looks like it, but some kind of a wide angle fujinon or canon lens. My question is: Will normal 1/2 lenses work fully on the adapter that was suplied with the camera.

As per Doug's earlier reply a Sony mount 1/2" lens such as the ones designed for the Sony F350, F355, F330, F335 will work with no magnification factor on the EX3 with the ACM-18. You can use SD lenses but they may be soft, esp in the corners.

I use a Fujinon HSs18x5.5 on my EX3, and it is great. However, unlike with a 2/3" lens, 5.5mm is not very wide-angle on a 1/2" lens. You'll need to find something in the 3mm or 4mm range to call it a wide angle -- and it ain't gonna be cheap. My lens is about $12K.

And I use the XS17x lens also from Fujinon. Very, very happy with picture quality and operational ease. Nothing to add with adapters as all has been stated in previous posts by the very best operators on this forum. Best wishes.
