need to double-check audio settings: advice appreciated
Hi everyone,
I just called the place where I bought my audio gear (two pairs of Sennheiser ew100 G2's, with Sanken COS-11 mics) to ask for advice re audio settings. The guy advised me to switch from mic input, which I've been using, to Line input. On his advice, my transmitter is now set to -10 Sensitivity, and my receiver is set to Level +12 AF Out. What do you think? He said that if I'm interviewing a loud talker, turn down the Sensitivity. Thanks for comments, Malcolm |
Hi there,
I just saw a thread in the All Things Audio section, from a fellow with an EX-1 and Sennheiser wireless mics... so I think I should ask this question there. Cheers, Malcolm |
try transmitter sensitivity: -20 & receiver level: -12 to EX1 with the switch to MIC.

I've been trying out different settings, including the one you recommended, Tuy, and I think the one I feel safest with is:
EX-1 audio input level: -50dBu Sennheiser transmitter Sensitivity: -20dB Sennheiser receiver AF Out: -12 Does that sound reasonable? thanks, Malcolm |
How does your audio sound with line input?
I am guessing that your audio guy is wrong, and that mic level is the way to go . . . unless you are receving your audio signal via a mixing board. |

Malcolm,
I kept EX1: Audio Input: trim ch-1 & ch-2 default: -41dBu / -50dBu is working better for you ? I set AGC Link: Separated If shooting out door I will set Wind Filter ch-1 and/or ch-2: On I think you can play with it and bring the file to your editing program then make adjustment later for wireless and Audio Input trim on EX1. Also depending on the mic too. I'm using the ME2. |
Brian, you're right. Despite this guy's insistence, I could only see references to Mic Input on these forums, so I phoned the guy at the shop back and told him I was going to stick with Mic (and not switch to Line).
Tuy - I can't say -50 dBu is working better... it just seemed that with the settings for the RF transmitter (-20) and receiver (-12), the default Audio Input trim for the EX-1, at -41, was a bit low. -50 seemed to give me an average voice level of -20 on my audio meters, with a lapel mic pinned in the normal place, and the little Audio Level wheel at the back left of the EX-1 right in the middle, at '5'. Peaking of no more than -8. That seems right, doesn't it? Thanks, Malcolm |
I have 2 sets of Sennheiser ew100 G2 mike kits, which are the same I believe.
Mine came with LINE output leads, they have a Blue XLR end. Page 65 of my manual states that the leads are LINE. Now I don't know if thats a generic term used by Sennheiser for a audio feed? I have mine running on my EX3 nearly every day at LIne level, and it's fine. Maybe they work either way OK? |
