Yes Simon, it´s my impression that the battery MIGHT fall out easily IF you of any reason do not use the camera leveled to the ground. During a shoot everything happens quickly. Maybe you need (as me) to exchange the matte box adapter and you, without thinking of it, turns the camera upside down...

BUT - I must also say that this scenario can easily be avoided if you slide a small plastic "item" (carefully!) right above the Anton Bauer adapter (it leaves a small space in EX-3´s battery slot, 5-7 mm). The battery adapter itself do not snap in place, like the original battery. It just uses the mounts in the battery slot, which seem to be an okay solution

That said, this adapter is the only way to go if you want to power light AND camcorder simultanously. And it take just a second to slide it in. No hassle with screw drivers...

One of the reasons the AB adaptor looked good is because it is about the same price as one SWIT battery, yet it allows me to use all of my Dionic 90's.

I wonder why they didn't make it snap into place like the original battery.

I got the Switt battery as well and haven't done much with it. I charged it and ran some playback for 15 minutes and noticed the last light on the LED went out. I hope this is normal and not an indication of a rapid discharge.

They will also have kits containing Batteries, a light and charger.

I was ready to buy an AB battery kit for my EX 3 but since both of my BP-U60 batteries give me over 300 minutes each, I had no reason to spend up big on the AB.

I will need to re-asses battery requirements once I receive my nanoflash recorder from Convergent Design.

Until then I can go all day and then some with the 2 batteries.

Hi its simple to work out what run time you should get from a camera simply divide the "W" power rating figure on your camera by the Wh capacity of the battery EG. a 60Wh battery will power a camera rated at 10W for 6 hours a 90W battery for 9 hours. But bare in mind, the W rating on your camera might not include the viewfinder which in effect is a light, so the brighter it is the more power it uses. Also low light high gain, auto focus and zoom uses power. Many cameras also use just as much power in record pause mode as when recording.

QR-EX3 and battery weight
 

The QR-EX3 Gold Mount for the EX3 camera works very well with the Hytron 50, Dionic 90, and Dionic 160.
The mount was designed to keep off the Hytron 100/120/140, ProPac and Digital ProPac14 because of weight considerations. However, this design will also keep the TrimPac and Digital TrimPac battery from mounting correctly.

Estimated runtimes (assuming a 14 watt draw) for the:
Dionic 90 = 6.5 hours list price $499 USD
Hytron 50= 3.6 hours list price $299 USD
Dionic 160 =11.5 hours :)

I've been using the Dionic 90 (on the dm-accessories mount) and it's worked great. I get long run times, never change a battery all day, and by opening the hinged rear plate it helps to balance the weight of the camera. They make a great combo!

When I know that I'm not going shoulder-mounted, I remove the rearmost section and mount the battery closer/lower. Still helps balance the camara a little and drops it's center of gravity and overall weight.

I've not used the stock Sony battery since the first week I got the camera!
