EX1 LCD has the white measles
Over the last couple of months my LCD has slowly been developing small white blotches when the screen is on. I saw one thread where a LCD had blotches that were viewable even when the camera was off. This is not the case for mine, they appear when the screen powers up. It started with one area and now there are several. Not sure if this is a dead pixel issue. The spots do not look like the dead pixels I had on my Sony Bravia TV I returned. They seem to have a softer edge around them.
I am planning on sending in the camera firmware updates and for this LCD problem. I have read Sony has a disclaimer on the LCD and I am wondering if will make it my responsibility to pay for a repair. This would be a slap in the face after going through problems with my first EX1. Any info is appreciated! |
I'd check out the LCD with a loupe or magnifying glass to check if its a pixel defect or not. It may be that the laminate is seperating like it looked like it was on Steve Cahills' LCD. He replaced the part himself, but you probably already watched that video.
It sounds like a manufacturing defect to me anyways so warranty should cover this. You should take it up with Sony support. George/ |
SOny service contact info
What is the proper channel to contact Sony service USA? I could go through my dealer but I'd rather go directly. Does any one have contact info for San Jose or Jersey? I believe these are the 2 centers that work on CINEALTA

I have confirmed that the spots I had were caused by a 8x magnifier that I used outdoors in a hood I constructed to check focus. The sun going into the magnifier "burned" the surface of the LCD it only took a few seconds for this to happen.
See: http://web.mac.com/stevecahill/Steve..._Go_Wrong.html for replacement of the LCD. |
The same thing happens quite a lot to the very expensive LCD based viewfinders that are available for the HDCAM cameras. Leave the eyepiece pointed towards the sun and you are asking for trouble. I expect the LCD in the EX3 could also be damaged in this way.

Never thought of that... whoh. I'm putting warning labels on pronto.
