Portable tripod for Kata HB-207
 

Hi all.

I've just treated myself to a Kata HB-207 backpack so that I can go exploring on my motorcycle with my camera. There is no chance of me attempting to take my manfrotto tripod with me though as it's way too heavy.

Any recommendations for a decent tripod thats small and light enough to be mounted on the HB-207 backpack that will also give usable support to my EX1?

Mine came in the mail... besides one slight zipper curve that makes it catch... im REALLY disapointed that my 17" laptop does NOT fit.

Everything is awesom about the bag but the main point was to be able to take everything with me. Currently waiting for a response from Kata

Didn't I warn you that only the Kata 502 will take those fat 17-inchers?

Is that an Apple Macbook 17?
 

Cause mine fits fine. I guess if you have a fat daddy windows it may not fit, but I cannot imagine thatit could be that fat. Mine is pretty roomy. You must have some kind of zipper issue.

Kata does have a list of what notebooks will fit into the 207.

I just bought a MacBook Pro 17" and it fits fine along with my EX1 and Nikon D70 and lenses. Nice backpack.

i purchased two of the HB-207 after reading reviews on this forum. just recieved them yesterday. great backpack but it does not fit my 17 in notebook. but i kind of knew that all ready.

When I'm backpacking or walking around a city, i usually pack my gitzo with me. It not meant for anything over 11 lbs so it works really well for just the camera and a boom mic.

Sorry to hijack the thread but does anyone know if you can fit a small Sony TZ (11" screen, 1.2 x 7.7 x 10.7) in a Kata 205 backpack?

I have a HB-207 and use a Benro carbon fibre base with a manfrotto 128RC head when weight is really an issue- but fairly hopeless for panning. I also have a Miller DS10 carbon fibre unit which is a beautiful tripod and still fairly light. It can be hung off the back but makes a heavy load

Thanks for the feedback, I'm going to keep my eye out for a second hand tripod small enough for that use I think.

On a side note, I've been taking my multirig pro in the backpack and that works just fine, and combined with my bike makes one of the most fun tracking dollys money can buy ;)

Perhaps I should have put it down as a business expense!

I don't know about the 17" MBP, but the 17" Sony Vaio definitely doesn't fit the 207 - I had it, tried it, and replaced with the 502. And am very happy with it, cause it takes everything I could ever need with me!

I can recommend the Miller. My DS10 is very light and handles the weight OK. I can easily backpack with the HB207 and tripod plus accessories. You might find the DS20 a little heavy for such activities
