Can't do a smooth slow zoom
In addition to trying to get my backfocus issues solved, I think I have found another problem? Will compare it with another EX-1 problem tomorrow but want to know if other people notice this. I have a nearly impossible time getting a slow, feathered zoom with the servo zoom toggle. I am used to being able to apply slight pressure, but when I do it starts zooming, then stops, then starts again. 90% of the time I use the manual zoom and rarely zoom during shots, but yesterday was filming a band and could not do a really slow zoom to save my life.
I saw a similar thread related to the top handle zoom and at low speeds (set below 10) and that seems to be a problem too. I don't use that zoom button but I am guessing it is a connected problem? Has anybody noticed this? Benjamin |
Have you checked the top handle zoom with slow settings? Sure sounds like the same problem.
|
Yeah, I get that same problem on the top handle too (although I never use that one). I assume it is a low speed problem. Has anybody had this problem and gotten it fixed?

An EX owner that posts here had the same issue. Sony has replaced his camera with another one.........just the other day, in fact.

Good to know Don.

I had the same problem. Sony replaced my camera. Try setting zoom speed to something like 3 in the menu and then test with the top handle zoom control. If it's stepping rather than doing a smooth slow zoom, you have the issue.

Im interested in hearing how your turns out. I had the same problem and it came back from Sony somewhat fixed. Its now ok with zoom speed down to 2 but at 1 it still stutters. They said they wont replace my camera.
|
Mine still steps at 1 too. It is a new camera (replaced the other one). I have a hunch other's don't get smooth zoom on 1. I think many issues go unreported because they go untested. Witness my example of vignette issue from CNN. You'd think a broadcaster would care.
