Hi has anyone ever used the ultra contrast filter from tiffen if so how well do they work?

Yes, works great. Really helps to avoid some of the worst compression artifacts with DV and HDV as they occur in dark places, so keeping detail in the shadows is useful. But.... You've got to post process the footage in your NLE to make it look good.

What post processing is necessary? Gamma correction? What sort of curve?

I do an s-shaped gamma curve.
