Hotshoe ruggedness - PD150/170
Prompted by a question from a forum participant, I finally took the top off my PD150 handle and removed the stainless steel sprint/cover from the hotshoe.
I have been concerned about the strength of the hot shoe mounting and have avoided placing heavy loads on it. I am no longer concerned about the mount. It is fastened to the metal handle with 4 hefty screws that each could probably hold it in place with a load attached. That said, there is a nice platform there for some interesting adapters. If one removes the hotshoe and the microphone holder, there is a fair amount of room for a machined adapter that would carry a lot of gear. Could move the standard microphone mount up far enough to clear the field in a wide angle adapter too. One more item for the round2it list. |
